We started our day…like… well a Hurd of turtles. The previous night we stayed with D’s parents since our entire house was packed up. It was nice having that extra time with them before heading off on our new adventure.
At 6 am we got up with BB and started to get the car 100% packed as well as everything situated for our trip. We visited one last time with D’s dad before he left for work and his mom was kind enough to give us a good start with breakfast. We spent some good time visiting and finishing up the little things here and there. By about 8:30 we packed up the car, said our See you laters, and hit the open road. It felt like the first two hours took the longest. The road to Page, AZ felt like it was never going to end. But we got there and just in time. BB was waking up and wanted to party.
We let her free for a little while and then set off on our merry way again. This time with directions!
By Kanab, UT we had a hungry baby and it was time to stop. We grabbed lunch at Subway and let the baby and dog free for a little while. Then once again set off.
It was exciting setting off on our new adventure. We were learning as we went and at this point had a good grasp on things. I had taken my spot in the backseat to keep BB happy and R happily was the copilot. I had a few tricks up my sleeve to keep BB happy and was ready at every little whimper.
By about American Fork, UT BB had had it. She was not ready to play this be coupped up in the car anymore game and she let us know. I tried every trick u had but the only thing she wanted was to be let free. We also conveniently got stuck in a traffic jam at this point. D took the first exit he could and tried frantically to get us somewhere we can park (keep in mind we are pulling a trailer), we finally ended up at the McDonald’s at which point BB is screaming and has tears rolling down her face and is just done. Before D could even stop the car I had BB out of her seat trying to calm her down.
To say we were flustered would be an understatement. I think I took it the hardest. No mom or dad wants to see their baby cry that hard and not be able to do anything to help calm them down. I also was worrying about how D and R took having a crying screaming baby in the back seat. D made sure I focused on BB and we got her calm. There was a Hampton Inn across the way and we figured what better place that there to stop. Unfortunately they don’t take dogs, but their sister residence did for a $50 fee. We drove to the sister locations and by the look on the outside decided that was way to fancy for what we were looking for and made the tough decision to keep going.
I had bought some colic tabs to help us along the way if we needed them and I decided that this was the best way for us to make it. So I gave BB a tab and she was soon sleeping soundly. We decided to stick to our original plan and find a Super 8, knowing they allow dogs to stay. Well, for whatever reason Salt Lake City was packed. We couldn’t find a decent hotel even without the dog anywhere. So we decided to head to Ogden. We stopped for dinner called the hotel there and let BB roll free. I was done at this point. Stressed, overwhelmed, tired, and freaked out I began to second guess our decision, think we were terrible parents subjecting our family to this trip, and thinking we should have worked things out a different way to avoid this.
By the time we made it to our hotel the only thing on our minds was sleep. And sleep we did. Until R decided to be tough dog and bark at people in the hall which immediately made my heart sink thinking it was going to be and impossibly long night. Fortunately D knew just what to do he called R up to the bed and that is where she stayed the rest of the night cuddled right next to me.
