What made our ferry more like a cruise were the 4 stops before our stop. The 1st stop was Ketchikan, AK. At this stop we were given about 2 hours to get off and explore. We were happy to get our feet on dry land, stretch out, and R could hardly contain her excitement to be able to let loose and run around a little. We thought, before getting off that we would want to spend our whole time off the boat but at 7 in the morning, in the freezing cold, with a dog we chose to just stay out about 30 mins. I think D and I’s sense of responsibility also overrode our sense of adventure, we were on the ferry for business and we were not risking getting to our final destination for a little sight seeing. With that being said we returned to the ship and enjoyed a nice quite breakfast.
This day like before was spent mainly relaxing. We stopped 2 more times before we went to bed but only left the boat once, in Wrangle, AK. The one thing that gave me a sense of peace during the stopping process was that none of these places really had the same unique beauty as what we found in Juneau. That was comforting because if anything helps a huge move, I would say, moving somewhere this beautiful would be it.
When we went to bed that night there was a lot of excitement, relief, and some nerves. We set our alarm for 3:30 a.m. so we could be prepared for our 4:15 arrival and tried to get as much sleep as possible. It felt similar to Christmas eve or the night before going to Disney land. The excitement was so innocent and pure this was the start of our new chapter and who wants a good night sleep before that.
