Happy Easter everyone!
As mentioned yesterday, things were going to be quite different this year for easter, or so we thought. All in all, we spent some good time with both our families. At one point we even skyped my younger brothers friends…that was a little odd, and unexpected. BB is starting to figure out this Skype thing and was much more talkative and into skyping today. Additionally, while talking about BB, she was in a fantastic mood today (as long as we didn’t try to get her to take any naps). She was all smiles and a ball of energy this morning while we skyped D’s family and then we went and grabbed breakfast after an attempt at a nap. When we got back we skyped my family and again she was all smiles and chatting up a storm even if she was being passed around the table.

After that we decided to go for our hike. We packed up and drove the 2 mins to the glacier. From there we followed the trail to the waterfall that was right by it. It was a well paved easy 2 mile hike and BB only made it 1/2 mile before she finally gave in and fell asleep. She used to fall asleep all the time on walks but you can tell she is really interested in seeing her surroundings and learning what all is out there now. R loved the hike she really enjoys running around like a crazy dog in the sand. Hiking in Juneau is so different from what we are used to. There are waterfalls, creeks, rivers, moss, and just water everywhere. You can’t follow your dust trail home. With that being said I feel like a little kid in a candy shop when we go hiking. I want to run and check out each waterfall and go see all the creeks and rivers. This waterfall was huge and did not disappoint. At the base of the glacier there is a beautiful lake and again I haven’t really ever seen an entire lake frozen over so it was quite exciting to see the layer of ice over the lake and there were also huge chunks of ice floating in it. I was like a little kid throwing rocks onto the ice hoping to break a hole through. R kept trying to challenge the mini icebergs that were close to shore. There were a lot of families out and about today and I couldn’t blame them it was beautiful!

Towards the end of our hike, honestly, I didn’t want it to end, so we hoped in the car and set out for a different trail. We could have stayed at the glacier there are hundreds of trails there but we thought why not change-up our scenery. We drove out a little until we got to a dead-end and turned around heading back to the neighborhoods we knew better. I had seen a trail by a place D sent me called the Field House (where apparently all the moms go on rainy days, D sent me there to make friends and I of course chickened out) and I had mentioned I wanted to try it, so we did. We went and explored that area until BB started to get fussy. That was our cue that it was probably time to stop exploring. We headed back grabbed dinner and spent the rest of the night at home.

BB got a nice bath to finish out the day and now she is sound asleep, thank goodness, she had to be exhausted. She is such a curious baby and there are days like today where she just can’t stand to miss out on any of the fun and no matter what we try she just fights her naps. Fortunately, she is still a lot of fun when this happens and as long as you keep her interested in things she is happy.
This Easter was much different from what we are used to, especially not knowing anyone here and not having family around, however, I think that still making time to spend some time with our families made it feel just a little better. Additionally, BB’s Grandma’s and Aunt sent her baskets so it was fun getting boxes and anticipating a box (Her Aunt and Nana’s box didn’t make it in time) and opening those and playing with all the goodies inside. Our parents/families spoil us and we are so grateful to have such good families, it has built great foundations for the starts of our family.
