What else could go wrong, at least its not raining.

Shortly after we got into Juneau the check engine light came on in our car. Great we both thought just what we need our only car going down. Thank goodness it waited until we got here a least. Anyways, I took the car to O’Reily and they ran the diagnostic test and told me basically…nothing. But she did say it could be the O2 sensors which is a quick fix. Being new and knowing a little about Juneau being so small I asked for a recomended repair guy. She gave me her recomendations and I went off on my way. I called the repair shop and got an appointment scheduled.

Monday morning rolled around and I got BB ready and packed her diaper bag with all the goodys we could need, we dropped D off at work and headed over to the repair shop. Our apointment was at 8 and my plan was to head over to the public library that was less than a block away and just read stories and hang out until the car was fixed (I was told possibly 2 hours max). We got the car situated and set off on our way to the library. It was a particularly cold morning, there was frost on the ground still, and I had BB wrapped in a blanket but it was still chilly. We make it to the library just to find out that it doesnt open until 2 p.m.! Thinking to myself, crap, the best of plans always fail. So we walked down the street hoping to find something, anything just simply a place to get inside and stay warm for a little while.

We ended up getting to the post office and being let in by a very nice lady. I asked her if she might know of any place that would be open around where we were. The thing is, there is an island on the other side of Juneau connected by a bridge. Its really not that far from downtown Juneau, therefore, when I scheduled the appointment I didn’t think much of it. However, this Island (Douglas) is like a little town in itself and has very limited services on it. She explained to me that she didn’t think that anywhere was going to be open that time of day and gave me some suggestions for places that might open soon. Although she did say that our best bet would be to take a bus downtown or even to where we live.

There was a bus showing up in a few minuets and I threw caution to the wind and we grabbed the bus. We took it to downtown Juneau, where I knew there was a starbucks that was open, anything else, who knows. We made it to the starbucks and got settled. BB was pretty happy just watching the city’s activities. After a while, I fed her and then noticed that her PJ’s were really wet. I looked down and … Blowout. Big huge messy blowout. I went and found the restrooms and got her cleaned up and grabbed the diaper bag to get her extra PJ’s. Except, there were no extra PJ’s. Alright, so I did what I could, grabbed her swaddle and wrapped her up. We went and hung out at starbucks for another hour or two.

At this point I was starting to wonder why I hadn’t recieved a call from the repair shop yet. I gave them a call and they said the car was going in right now soI figured okay another hour. We walked to the library which opened in downtown Juneau at 11. I let BB roll around and play and be read lots of books. One problem with the swaddle was BB did not like it. She wanted to be able to move her legs and arms around, so at the library I let her free. Call me a bad mom, but I did what I could with what I had. I had been texting D for a while now and he asked if we wanted to meet him for lunch, so we took him up on that offer. We met him for an amazing lunch at a little shop by D’s work. They had coffee and panini’s and homemade ice cream. That was definitely a little sunshine on our day. I am so greatful D is there to add sunshine to my days.

After we dropped D back off at work we decided we were going to catch the bus back and just rescue our car at whatever state it was in. At this point it was almost 1:30 and I was getting really frustrated with the repair shop. We scheduled to get our mattress delivered at 2 and it was at least a 15 min drive. When we got to the repair shop our car was just sitting there, and there wasn’t anything but a diagnostic test done. I was so frustrated I could hardly stand it. I got the keys, thankfully for them they didn’t try and charge me because if they tried I would have probably lost it. We rushed to our new house and thankfully made it with 5 mins to spare. Unfortunatly, the furniture company was early and waiting for me.

Once we got everything settled in BB and I were done. We called it a day and needed some good relax and cuddle time. I was beyond overwhelemed and was definitly doubting our decisions to move here.  The entire time this was going on, however, all I could think was thank goodness today was sunny and nice and not raining.

Sometimes, you have to focus on the good things in life and today was definitly one of those days.
