50 weeks

BB is mobile, we were relying a lot on the fact that she hadn’t figured out that she can stand up on her own with the whole walking business. Well… that isn’t the case anymore she all of the sudden figured out that if she stands up on her own she can go anywhere. The other night we were talking about how fast she is and how busy she is. We were relaxing I think I was in the kitchen making her smoothies and other various foods for the week and she was walking back and forth and down our hall and back into the living room and was all over the house. It is crazy how fast this walking thing evolved. She went from needing a lot of coaxing to take just a couple steps, to cautiously letting go from furniture or other objects to take a couple steps, and now standing up on her own and confidently walking by herself. May I remind you she only started walking at all 3 weeks ago.

Also, because I know D wont let me live it down I figure I should fess up to the world (also I want to remember this so some day I can laugh about it). There is a consignment store called Mommy and Me here in Juneau and we like to visit it periodically to see if there are any good deals. Saturday was like every other time we went but I figured since we were the only ones in there why not let her have a little freedom. When she just stood there and didn’t go to the toys I figured she wasn’t feeling too brave and so I took her with me to check out some things. We were sitting on the floor looking in a couple bins (emptying them out on the floor and me trying to keep up putting things back in). I let go of her for half a second and my attention went to finishing cleaning our mess and closing the bin. Remember how I said she was fast? Well I figured that she would make it to the book shelf that was 3 feet from us and would be exploring that. I was wrong. By the time I looked back (maybe 5 seconds) she was gone. I freaked out I walked all over the immediate area that I thought she could cover and couldn’t find her. At this point it was close to full on panic. We were the only ones in the store thankfully so I didn’t have to worry about someone letting her out the door but still… I was running through the conversation with D about how I lost BB and I didn’t know what to do. I looked under the clothes racks I looked in their back rooms I looked under book shelves I looked everywhere. I was about to enroll the help of the ladies working there when I heard her let out a cry of frustration. She had made her way to the other end of the store and was trying to play with a toy that was stuck in a bin under a shelf. I scooped her up and made sure I had a stern talking to myself about keeping my eyes or hands on her at all times. I can’t keep secrets and I always feel so guilty that I fess up to D right away about everything I do like this and he rightfully gave me a hard time!

BB doesn’t like…

  • To be picked up if we are walking
  • To be held or restrained at all
  • Getting teeth (or whatever it is she is going through)
  • Sweet potato (Her and D are not fans which means more for me!)
  • Feeling like she can’t do something, whether it’s because it’s something we don’t want her doing (usually for safety reasons) or something she hasn’t mastered yet
  • To be woken up

BB is like a teenager when it comes to mornings. I think it is so funny! She takes such a long time to wake up in the mornings and I have learned that there is a specific way that is best to wake her up. Usually about 15 mins or more before I need to leave I go in, turn off her sound machine, turn on the lights and leave her to wake up on her own. About 5 mins later after she tries everything she can think of to find a way to stay asleep she will start making noises and pounding on the bars to be let out!

BB loves the rain. We knew this, but I am still amazed how unaffected she is by the rain. She just wants to play, she has low standards for the environment in which she plays.

I am so excited that she is so mobile and slightly terrified. D is beyond excited and is doing much better about her growing up than I am. Can you believe in just 2 weeks she will be ONE!! I can say without a shadow of a doubt we love that little goofball so stinkin’ much. She lights up our life and has changed it for the better so much. We have the best little kid we could have asked for.
