Ducks in a stroller

Sometimes it is easy to get caught in the mundane tasks that fill your free time. Dishes, laundry, cleaning up the party that you didn’t get to attend, picking up the same toys that you put away earlier that day or if you’re really lucky the night before… you get it. Sometimes, however, you find something that makes it all worth it.

Tonight I found ducks in BB’s stroller. She had been arranging and rearranging all her toys as I made dinner and for the most part she was playing quietly so I didn’t intervene. As I worked in the kitchen I saw her pushing her stroller around and she would put her bells in there and then they found their final resting place for the night in the pots. She received a pack of three rubber ducks for Christmas and she asked me to open them for her. I did and half expected them to end up in the tub, the grave yard for many of her toys. I didn’t think about them again until I was cleaning up the house and I found all three of them set to go for a ride in the stroller. Apparently BB decided that her and her ducks were going for a walk. I love to discover things that show me she is making connections and learning things, but I also love that she in some sense has an imagination that is in full force.

I was thankful for 30 minutes of mainly self sufficient quiet play but I got a sweet surprise when I found ducks in the stroller.
