Once BB turned 4 months she was given the go ahead to start eating solid foods. D was so excited and was dreaming up the delicious dinners he was going to give her. We both agreed we were going to start with vegetables first and let her get really good and happy with those before fruits. Thus far we have stuck to that. Although we had the green light at 4 months it was a crazy time for us and we decided to wait until we got to Juneau and settled. This meant it was well after she turned 5 months before we gave her the first taste of real food.
It came in the form of pureed avocado. She was really unsure about it. I think partially because I was too impatient to wait for them to get really good and ripe. I also think she was a little thrown off by the thicker consistency. That night we only managed to get a couple bites down her. Again D and I agreed that any food before she turned one was going to be just for fun. Therefore, a couple bites was good enough for us. We didn’t want her to feel like we had expectations of her or associate anything negative with food. So we continued to try slowly but surely, eventually I think they grew on her.
Next she had butternut squash. She seemed to really like this. She ate a little bit at first and then a little more and eventually ate a whole ounce. That day she ate an ounce of squash and an ounce of Avocado. I was so excited! After that she had carrots and that was just sort of okay, she has only had them twice now. She has also tried peas in a mesh bag thing for teething but she was really not into that. I also gave her a few loose ones and she just played with them.
She is going to love eating I can just tell but for now neither of us are that committed to eating real foods yet. She does eat baby crackers and can do pretty good with those. I think, like everything it is just a matter of time before she decides she really wants to eat. I also think that we have to make sure we are giving her plenty of opportunities to try new foods.
I tried to include a few pictures of her enjoying her food, but, have you ever tried feeding a baby and take a picture….

Looks like she likes those veggies.. I think that is great now she will love them when she gets older..
